Psychotic Episodes After Vigabatrine Treatment: A Case Report

Abstract
Vigabatrin is an antiepileptic that functions by increasing ɣ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain. Like other antiepileptics, it also causes neuropsychiatric side effects. Among these side effects, psychosis draws particular attention. Drug-induced psychosis has been reported in previous publications at the beginning of the drug, while psychosis reports during the cessation period are limited. We discussed the possible mechanisms of psychosis that can be seen in the use of vigabatrin in the light of the assumptions that GABA, glutamate and dopamine are involved in the formation of positive symptoms in psychosis.
