Erdem Uysal, Hasan Belli, Mustafa Solmaz.

Abstract
Hyponatremia can cause many psychiatric symptoms besides the main clinical presentation. Among inpatient population, hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance and syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) is the one of main causes of hyponatremia in this population. In elderly patients with no history of psychiatric illness, the possibility of having organic etiology should be considered when mania occurred. Here, we present a 65-year-old woman who had no known psychiatric diagnosis or treatment history and was diagnosed with first manic episode which was considered to be related hyponatremia led by SIADH. In light of the observation that mania symptoms were improved with aripiprazole treatment, we discuss possible benefits of aripiprazole in patients with secondary mania.

Key words: Hyponatremia, Inappropiate ADH Syndrome, Aripiprazole, Manic Episode
